L O S T Blog #2 - "Namaste"

Season 5, Episode 9

The aptly titled Namaste delivered us a fantastic little episode with a number of conversation-worthy tidbits, but I believe we're still in the eye of the season 5 storm. The episode starts with the Ajira 316 crash from the perspectives of Frank Lapidus and some of the other non-Oceanic 6 passengers. Excellent start to the episode which got a big question out of the way: "What the fuck happened to that plane?"

It appears, despite the fact Jack, Kate, and Hurley have flashed to 1977, that the Ajira 316 plane landed dramatically in 2007/08, or "present time" in the L O S T world. Frank Lapidus seems to be taking charge before Ben takes off, prompting Sun to follow him and Lapidus to follow Sun. Based off the short present time scenes in The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, as well as Cesar's immediate opposition to Frank's leadership, Cesar will be the "Jack" of the 316ers, taking charge and telling them what to do. But that isn't important at this point.

Back in 1977, "James" (I still need to get used to that), is effectively using his con-man ways to intigrate Jack, Kate, and Hurley into the Dharma Initiative. Jin, upon finding out that Sun was on the plane, runs to the Flame Station, where we meet Radinsky for the first time. For those of you who don't remember Radinsky, he was shown as a bloody stain on the ceiling of the Swan Hatch, having blasted himself in the very place we see him designing in Namaste. In Jin's search for Sun, he runs into Sayid, who is going to be treated as if he were a "Hostile".

In Sun's search for Jin, she is lead by the one and only Ben Linus to a set of canoes where she decides to "wack him on the head", replacing him with the impossible-to-dislike Frank Lapidus to join her on her journey to the main island.

On the main island in 1977, it is revealed that the baby delivered by Juliet in LaFleur is the one and only Ethan. If only she had stuck to being a mechanic and NOT delivered that baby, how much trouble would have been saved for the original castaways in 2004. What's even more hilarious is that Ethan eventually will help recruit Juliet and train her to be a fertility doctor on the island, training which she will later use to deliver him in the past. Yet another circle complete.

Once Kate, Jack, and Hurley have been officially made a part of the DI, Jack takes it upon himself to immediately try to step up and run shit. Sawyer quickly schools him on that, which was absolutely awesome to see. Jack is made a Dharma "workman", but we can only wonder how long Dr. Shephard's reign at the bottom will last.

In the most interesting and compelling scene of the episode, Dr. Shephard Senior makes yet another unexplained, mysterious, and God-Like appearence in 2007, showing up in one of the awfully run-down houses at the Barracks, and revealing to Sun and Frank that their friends are currently 30 years in the past. "You've got quite the journey ahead of you". Do they ever. Oh, and pay attention to the background during that scene. Look for blonde hair ;).

And in 1977, we've all been looking for beady eyes and round glasses on a young man, who we finally get to see at the end of this episode. The young Ben Linus, bringing a sandwich to Sayid while he sits in his cell at the Barracks. It appears that the master manipulator has known our LOSTies all along. Wow.

That's about all for today, but the ABC promo for next week's episode "He's Our You" looks absolutely bananas. So I'll see you for that next Thursday.

L O S T Blog #1 - "LaFleur"

Season 5, Episode 8

Alright so, before I even really get into anything, for everybody who’s bitching about this episode being “boring”, you’re fuckin retarded and need to realize that this, along with 316 and The Life & Death of Jeremy Bentham are simply transitional episodes. They can’t just tap into 3 years later without establishing how they reached that point. So this is the story of Sawyer and the on-island crew and how they came to be part of the Dharma initiative.

We start with finally catching a brief glimpse of the infamous 4-toed statue (shown above), from behind. Looks to be some sort of Egyptian-like sculpture, which may or may not be carrying an Ankh (also the pendant tied around Paul’s neck later in the episode), which is described by Wikipedia as:

the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "eternal life", a triliteral sign for the consonants ˁ-n-ḫ. Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop.

Why is there a statue of an Egyptian god on the island? Who the fuck knows, but they’ve been hinting at some sort of Egyptian influence since the hieroglyphics on the inside of the blast door in season 2. We’ve also seen similar hieroglyphics this season on the outside of the temple in This Place Is Death. This episode was also the first to call attention to Richard always looking like he’s wearing eye-liner. Though he really isn’t (the actor just looks like that, you can see it in The Dark Knight), it’s interesting that he appears that way because ancient Egyptian men, especially those of wealth and power, always wore make-up. Is something being hinted at here? Probably, or maybe they’re just fucking with us.

The main bulk of the episode was not the most exciting. We establish that Horace was once head of Dharma on the island, Sawyer was pretty high up there as Jim LaFleur, whatever happened that caused babies to not be born on the island hadn’t happened yet, the others and dharma had a truce, and last but not least Sawyer and Juliet have entered a relationship. What’s interesting is that of all the Sawyer on-island crew, all were accounted for in the “3 years later” sequences but one, Daniel Faraday. I don’t think he’s dead however, as I still believe the very first scene of season 5 has yet to happen. That’s probably where he is right now, working on the orchid.

Three of the Oceanic 6 have finally arrived! Where are the other two that were on the plane? I’m sure we’ll find out soon, but the real interesting thing is the Sawyer + Kate reunion. I’m sure she won’t be too happy to find he’s married to Juliet now, since she’s a bitch and probably expected him to be waiting for her on the beach still after 3 years, even though she’s been fucking Jack for a great portion of that time.

This weeks episode was not the most eventful, more just enjoyable. Can’t wait until two dreadful weeks from now when we (hopefully) will finally get to see what happens.

Hip Hop Blog #1

Yes today is Thursday but since this is a blog about both Hip Hop and L O S T and there has been a MAJOR announcement today in the world of Hip Hop, this one comes first.

Apparently we can look toward hearing the official single for the album around April 7th. Assuming the single is not "Crack A Bottle". Which we all hope it's not.

That's all for Hip Hop Blog #1, L O S T Blog #1: LaFleur coming later today!

I Love Hip Hop, I Love L O S T.

Fans of Hip Hop:

Have you ever felt that people look at your baggy clothes, superficial lifestyle, constant need for materialistic goods and unbridling love for marijuana, and think to themselves "Well there's no way that guy's intelligent."?

Fans of L O S T:

Have you ever felt that people look at your thick-framed glasses, Star Wars t-shirts, shut-in lifestyle, constant need for thought-provoking television and unbridling love for the internet, and think to themselves "That guy's a fuckin faggot."?

because those two things converge here, on "I Love Hip Hop, I Love L O S T." the ultimate blog for all the weirdos of this generation who are completely unaware where exactly they fit in.

...Rap Basement!

Yes, believe it or not ladies and gentleman, I've been all around the internet and there are NO greater L O S T fans, possibly even on this planet, than the ones in the Lost (abc) thread at the Rap Basement message board.

Discussing on this board for months, I began thinking to myself...

Myself, and all the other wonderful RapBasement Losties, are part of an untapped demographic that needs to be represented. So here I stand now. With the ultimate goal of bringing our people to light.

I Love Hip Hop, I Love L O S T.

Every THURSDAY I will be posting my thoughts on the previous night's episode of L O S T (I like to get at least one re-watch in before I go deep into it).

Every OTHER DAY, all I can really say is "who knows?". Some L O S T thoughts here, some hip hop there, and pretty much anything else that sparks my interest in between.

Hope my blog is enjoyed by all, and I may even drop a "vlog" every now & again. If I feel like it.
